Uruguay Ecological Farm School

Rizoma Field School is associated with a forest school for children under 18. Here are the details:

We have officially opened our ecological farm school for kids on our property!

We are using the model of forest schools developed around the world (see here), but since we practice a form of agroecology, we want to present a picture of nature to explore that is intertwined with human culture. We will have daily meetings (weekdays) in the morning (9:30 to noon) and afternoon (3 to 5:30) to explore the farm. On the farm we have: an old ruin, outdoor meeting spaces, open prairie, and a forest, like the video below:

We follow the principles of the Forest School Association with an emphasis on:

  • developing a relationship between the learner and the natural world
  • promoting the holistic development of the learner and thereby fostering resilient, creative, independent, and confident thinking
  • allowing learners to take supported risks to build confidence in ability
  • focusing on child-led learning process which follows the child’s passions and interests, with teachers playing a supporting role

The fee is on a sliding scale. Will substitute fee for parent volunteer hours. Talk to us about joining our ecological farm school! ashley@rizomafieldschool.com
